Industrial start-up Limatech announces that it has been awarded ETSOA (European Technical Standard Order Approval) and ADOA (Alternative procedure to Design Organisation Approval) certification by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), becoming the first European lithium battery designer and producer, and the second global player approved to market its batteries for the aerospace market.
After extensive battery testing, Limatech received ADOA approval from EASA on September 30, 2024. This certification, held by fewer than 300 companies worldwide, approves the compliance of Limatech’s design system with civil aviation standards, and is accompanied by the first EASA-issued ETSO C179b certification in Europe to approve the technical compliance of rechargeable lithium batteries with aviation standards. Approval of this ETSO (ETSOA) makes it possible to address the original equipment market with an off-the-shelf product for specific installation on aircraft. With an initial production capacity of 500 units per year, and its partnership with OEMServices for logistics and distribution, Limatech will be ready to produce and deliver its batteries to its first customers in the coming months.
“EASA was involved in our certification campaign from the outset. Our alignment in terms of mission has enabled us to tackle our certification campaign in the best possible conditions,” comments Florence Robin, Co-Founder and President of Limatech.
“We would like to thank EASA for their commitment to our certification program. ETSO certification of our batteries and ADOA approval are the trigger for the commercialization phase,” adds Maxime Di Meglio, Co-Founder and CEO of Limatech.
“We congratulate Limatech on obtaining the ADOA and ETSO certificates (the first issued by EASA for this type of standard – C179b), which mark a major milestone in the development of this innovative start-up. We wish the Limatech teams every success for the next stages, in particular obtaining STCs enabling the battery to be installed on different types of aircraft” comments Gregory Lievre, Head of the Design Organisations and ETSO Department at EASA.
