A look back at ‘The semiconductor rendez-vous’ in Prague: a success for European microelectronics
More than 150 participants gathered from October 8 to 10, 2024 in Prague, Czech Republic, for “The semiconductor rendez-vous” event. Through three days of conferences, workshops and fruitful discussions, this European meeting showcased the results of the projects of a dozen leaders of the IPCEI ME/CT (Important Project of Common European Interest on Microelectronics and Communication Technologies).
The event was initiated by STMicroelectronics, Soitec and Lynred, with the participation of partners Aledia, CEA, GlobalWafers, Murata, Renault, Valeo, Vitesco Technologies and X-FAB.
Sharing technological advances
Organized by Minalogic and the Czech National Semiconductor Cluster, the event brought together key players in European microelectronics, including innovative companies, SMEs, major groups, laboratories, universities and students. The main objective was to share the technological advances resulting from the IPCEI ME/CT and discuss the benefits for local ecosystems in terms of technological sovereignty and green transition.
- 30 speakers gathered around 20 conferences and 4 round tables highlighted technological innovations in semiconductors and power electronics for electric mobility.
- Emphasis was placed on ‘spillover effects’, in particular about how technologies developed within the IPCEI framework can benefit the entire microelectronics sector.
- Pierre Chastanet, Head of Microelectronics and Photonics at DG CONNECT (European Commission), addressed the long-term outlook for Europe.
Towards a digital and sovereign Europe
The IPCEI ME/CT's mission is to make Europe a world leader in microelectronics, focusing on digital and ecological transitions. The supported projects cover the entire semiconductor value chain, from materials to advanced manufacturing processes. Among the companies and institutions present at the event were leaders in microelectronics and from the automotive market, who shared their progress and highlighted the synergies created with local and European ecosystems.
A bridge between innovation and economic impact
Over the years, Minalogic has built up real know-how in organizing spill-over events on a European scale. The cluster held a similar event in 2022 in Lund (Sweden), as part of the IPCEI on Microelectronics. Building on this expertise, Minalogic's objective is to multiply this type of event in order to maximize the impact of the economic and technological spin-offs of IPCEIs at transnational level.
Cooperating on a European scale
The event highlighted the need for Europe's semiconductor industrial and academic players to work together to face up to global competition.
The event confirmed Minalogic's central role in supporting innovative companies across Europe, facilitating collaborations and supporting the setting up of IPCEI projects. Through its presidency of the Silicon Europe Alliance, Minalogic continues to federate players in the sector and promote technological advances that will enable Europe to strengthen its sovereignty in semiconductors.
Stay tuned for Minalogic's next steps and events to continue driving European innovation in microelectronics.
